There are murderer's among us. And you know who you are!  And there are more than just a few of you!!  No matter what they may have done to you or your family in the past, murder is never the answer!

Crepe Myrtles do NOT need to be hacked back in what is commonly referred to as "Crepe Murder"! It is as wrong as killing your dog or your child... and amazingly people all over the south do it.  They have NO IDEA WHY but since daddy did it that way, then they do it that way.

These two HORRIBLE hackjobs are actually at the radio station where I work, and our "professional landscaper" did this to Crepes that are probably 20+ years old and COULD be big and beautiful, but instead are forever destined to be a knarled mess that resembles a shrub instead of a tree!  *(it IS after all supposed to be a TREE!)

Now HERE are some examples of how TO CORRECTLY trim a Crepe (if you feel you must trim them at all) and I found them at Walmart of all places.
OK, so to review, DO NOT HACK OFF YOU CREPE MYRTLE TREES!  It is wrong, not matter what your mother or grandmother told you.  Learn how to do it the correct way and end up with a big healthy, gorgeous tree someday, instead of a sickly little shrub you cut to death each year.

  1. I don't know, Jeff. I kind of like the rebirth of the Crepe Myrtles every year...then again, I'm amazed by amphibian regenerative powers too.
